I'll start off the blog with a few observations of recess. I believe my focus is going to be on the connections of "real life" and academic learning within my students imaginative playing space. Here goes:
December-Keiah's imaginative play idea comes quickly, "We was at school-last day-school's out! Snow fight!"
Paper snowballs have been created just for this moment. Our desks right now are in a large rectangle with two openings to get through and a large carpet in the center of the rectangle. A stack of paper placed in the middle of the carpet lent itself to snowball heaven.
Someone's been hit--"Take her to the cemetery."
Ms. Weidmann, snow angels!
Ms. Weidmann, all of the games are taken. There are scholars rocking in chairs, playing tic tac toe on the white boards, reading Potter, playing hangman on the big board, and writing messages to each other. "But don't tell Mshayia. She's not supposed to see this one yet. She's supposed to guess."
Erieyon begins jumping from black square to black square on the checkered floor. It is a path made naturally around the desks. He is wading through the snow, jumping, leaping and trying desperately to just stay on the black.
